Weekly Crediting Rates used for Benefit Payments, Investment Switches and Benefit Quotes from March 2011
Prior to March 2011
Prior to the change, earnings on your investment were calculated using monthly crediting rates. This meant that where you received a benefit payment, or switched your account balance between investment options, earnings were credited using the most recent monthly crediting rates declared by the Trustee. As the Trustee declared each month’s crediting rate generally three weeks after the end of the previous month, the earnings applied did not necessarily reflect the current investment performance of the Fund.
Example – A Benefit Payment Paid on 11 April 2010 (Using Monthly Rates)
| Period | Rate Used (month ending) |
| 1 July 2009 to 28 February 2010 | The monthly rate for each month |
| 1 March 2010 to 31 March 2010 | February 2010 |
| 1 April 2010 to 11 April 2010 | February 2010* (11 days) |
*As the March 2010 rate was not available to the Trustee until after the third week of April 2010, the last rate declared by the Trustee, being February 2010, was used for the entire period 1 February 2010 to 11 April 2010.
What happens from March 2011?
From March 2011 crediting rates will be updated each Saturday based on the value of the Fund's assets as advised by our Custodian at the end of business the preceding Tuesday. The rates will be posted on the fund's website from the following Monday.
Example – A Benefit Payment Paid on 11 April 2011 (Using Weekly Rates)
| Period | Rate Used (week ending) |
| 1 July 2010 to 28 February 2011 | The monthly rates for each month |
| 1 March 2011 to 8 March 2011# | 1 March 2011 to 8 March 2011# |
| 9 March 2011 to 15 March 2011 | 15 March 2011 |
| 16 March 2011 to 22 March 2011 | 22 March 2011 |
| 23 March 2011 to 29 March 2011 | 29 March 2011 |
| 30 March 2011 to 5 April 2011 | 5 April 2011 |
| 6 April 2011 to 11 April 2011 (6 days) | 5 April 2011* |
# Covers an eight day period due to 28 February 2011 being a Monday and the new weekly valuations being at close of business on the Tuesday.
* The rate for the week ending 5 April is used, as the rate for the period 6 April to 12 April will not be available until after 12 April.
Why did the Trustee make this change?
The move to determining the value of the fund's assets, and therefore the crediting rates on a more frequent basis means that where you make a withdrawal from the fund, switch your balance between investment options or simply want to know the balance of your account, the earnings applied will be more closely aligned with movements in investment markets and the investment performance of option(s) in which you have invested.
Please note that where you remain a member of the fund and do not switch your balance between investment options or make a withdrawal, there will be no change to your earnings. Earnings will continue to be applied at 30 June each year, based on the final crediting rates declared by the Trustee.
