Success Under Construction - Australian Pork Business Development Nights

“The Butcher’s Battle Plan”

Australian Pork has launched a new initiative for butchers across the country with the aim of making their businesses more profitable by bringing them up to speed with modern marketing techniques, methods to increase customer loyalty, and to introduce ways of making business simpler.

The scheme, “The Butcher’s Battle Plan”, began in October 2011 with a Business Development Night in western Sydney, with presentations from a variety of businesses and related services from the across the meat producing industry.

AMIST Super’s presentation, “Making Super Sexy”, was a brief introduction to the importance of Income Protection plus the ways we can help small business owners streamline their operations, reduce paperwork, and save time and money when meeting their superannuation obligations. AMIST Super's new look EmployerAccess section makes paying super simple, and ensures that the correct data gets to us each and every time.

Butcher's were impressed with AMIST Super's low cost, 'no questions asked' Income Protection coverage for both themselves and their staff, with many attendee's admitting they didn't know it was possible, let alone existed. After hearing the case studies of members benefiting from AMIST Super's Income Protection after suffering accidents and illness, attendees were relieved to hear that this coverage was automatic, with many asking staff at the AMIST Super stand how to increase their coverage (PDF, 79KB).

The scheme examines all aspects of the independent butcher’s business operations and highlights those parts that are currently under pressure, and offers suggestions to help ease this stress.

Terry Edgar, National Butcher Manager at Australian Pork says “The meat industry has seen a lot of changes in the last 30 years. Not least of which is the dominance of the big two supermarket chains and the increase of alternative meal sources. In 1980 there were over 10,000 butcher shops in Australia and in 2010, figures estimate just 3,200.”

A packed house at the Business Development Night

Terry continues, asking butchers “where will you be in five years time? Is your customer base growing? Do you know how many of your customers’ seven main meals in a week you supply? Do you know what you need to know about your customers? Can you honestly say for sure that you are making money?”

AMIST Super“All these questions and more are covered in the first stage of “THE BUTCHERS BATTLE PLAN”.

The Sydney event was a huge success with the full house taking away a wealth of information, not just from AMIST Super, but from producers, marketing experts, business development coaches, and even other butchers.

Australian Pork will have more Business Development nights across the country in 2012, with the next ones in Brisbane and Townsville on 6th and 7th March respectively – keep an eye on the Australian Pork website for the confirmation of dates. We’d love to see you there.
